Title: Proportional spacing for Printable
Post by: Hiroki on 2006-12-22 12:16 pm
Please take a look of example.
This is from NWC2(.10) screenshot and is edited for showing difference.
It shows fixed spacing and looks bit redundancy.  In future, is it possible
that note's spacing can be proportional and adjusted automatically? (Now
can be W-I-D-E but can't be condensed).
Condensing spaces with proportional spacing--scores looks better, but it
would make NWC more expensive.

I don't really know what you're talking about.  As I understand it, you're asking for proportional spacing, which we have.  My version of NWC does not have anything similar to Example 1.

Then you have some version of NWC2 that I lack.
This is nearly identical to Hirkowi's ex. 1)

ex. 2) exposes a problem in NWC2: the triplets are spaced unevenly.

NWC's proportional spacing routine only affects whole, half and quarter notes.

I do not understand what you want in ex. 3)
The 16th triplet group should be the tightest, followed by the 16ths, 8th triplets, and the the 8ths.
I do not expect to see this any time soon ...

Yes, it would be wonderful if the range for Extra Note Spacing: was -1 to 3 and allowed increments of at least 1/10th.  For ex. 4) you could set the 16th notes to -0.2

You're right...I was trying it in comparison with a string of 16th notes on another staff, which forces proportional spacing.  That if there is a plain string of notes on another staff will force proportional spacing truly exposes a problem in NWC2.

See attached example, and in the second staff, delete all notes and watch what happens.

No, it does not.

Are you saying that you see no difference in your version on NWC?
If you're saying that the triplets are uneven, I agree.  If you're saying the barred 8th and 16th notes aren't proportional, I disagree.

Except for the triplets, there is nothing to proportionally space.

The 16th are evenly spaced (as they should be).
The 8th notes align with the 16th notes (as they should).

IOW, the first three beats are irrelevant to this discussion.
Sorry ...

Take Kahman's example, highlight the second staff, and change the values of all its notes.  The spacing in the note groups in the first staff change to follow the beat.  I think that's a good behaviour.

The spacing when it does this, and the spacing when there's only one staff, are both acceptable to me.

kahman-san,

I'm appreciated with you, yes that's what I want to say.  My apologize of poor English.
I expect (ex-2), second one.

Rick-san,

Thanks for the source code.
1) 8th + 16th + 16th, spacing ratio will be 2:1:1, I mean this.  But in this example it's 1:1:1, which is like draft-handwriting.
2) Some unevenly: not a big matter so far.
3) If adjusted the same way, one bar will be longer, looks loose.  In some case, only 2 bars in one stave, too long.

David-san,

It depends on the purpose, so in some case looks cheap.  Expecting improvement of spacing.
