In a piano score I am writing I am trying to build a chord of differing valued notes. The chord consists of two octave notes (dotted quarters) with two dotted half notes within (between the octave notes) in 6/8 time. The dotted quarter octave notes are meant to move down one tone while the dotted half notes remain constant. When I build the chord NWC allows me to to build the chord top to bottom or bottom to top, except I am unable to add the top (or bottom) octave notes to the chord. I have tried entering the half notes first. NWC allows me to enter the top dotted quarter but not the bottom or vice versa. If I enter both octave notes, NWC does not allow me to enter the dotted half notes inside the octave dotted quarter notes. I've tried using different stem directions but that doesn't work either. I know I can do it with layering staffs but that involves multiple bars of hidden rests all for the sake of the chord notes I can't add. NWC should allow this chord to be built without the layering hassle, no? Or am I missing something?
In the end not sure how helpful this is but it certainly has given me further incentive to explore scriptorium. Also learning about using midi patch. Perhaps my computer sound card doesn't support the sound I am looking for. Thank you.
I have been working on a composition for percussion ensemble. I would like to include a gong. The NWC sample drumref.nwc has a Chinese Cymbal but the sound in midi playback is not much different than the crash or high hat. DrumStaff.fso by Lloyd in't any help either. What I am looking for is the sound of a chau gong or heng gong 13" or 16" or so. To indicate it on a score isn't a problem but where can I find a midi playback (plugin) that produces the sounds of the various Chinese gongs or even a large symphonic gong. Maybe it's just something for a wish list.
Ah yes that looks right. Thank you. lol the odd duration. The examples were taken from a project I found in the attic from my university days. It is a percussion arrangement/orchestration of Bela Bartok Mikrokosmos vol 6 147 Marche. The piece is full of odd durations. Got an A on the project. Thought I would transfer it to a digital record not only to exercise, expand and hone my Noteworthy skills (I have mainly used NW for choral pieces) but also to listen to a digital rendering of how it sounds. Again thank you!
Is there any way of placing a quarter rest under the half note followed by the quarter note (example 1), eighth rest under the quarter followed by eighth note (ex 2) or tying the quarter note to a dotted half with a quarter rest under the dotted half followed by the two quarter notes. This is for a marimba part of a score. If I was hand writing the score that is how I would write it and in fact many, many years ago in university composition/orchestration (pre computers) that is how I scored these measures.
I just started using Slur.ms created by Mike Shawaluk. I must say that I like the functionality of this plugin. I am however having a problem when I try to print my project. When a staff carries over to the next line on the printed page, the slur ends abruptly at the end of the line instead of carrying over to the next line. This doesn't happen when I use the NWC ; slur. Am I using slur.ms wrong or improperly or have I missed a setting somewhere? I've tried a few different things but without success.
Is there a user tool or plugin that would allow phrasing that would ignore already assigned note properties. Using the slur tool for phrasing instrumental comps is fine but having to use the slur tool and then going back to assign individual note or noting groupings properties "always/never" is a real pain and unduly laborious in my opinion.
