How do I....

Hi fellow "Noteworthians",

I have a question you may be able to answer. How would I go about adding a snares off sound for a snare drum/percussion part? I am trying to write a piece with one but can not find the correct sound. Regular snare will not do. Thank you. ~TomCool

Hi Tom,
if memory serves me, there is an instrument patch which gives a snares off snare but I can't find it - perhaps memory does not serve so well BUT...

A snare drum without the snares is really a shallow tom with tight heads - perhaps using a tom will give you what you need... I don't think a timpani will work - the sound is wrong even if you do use a higher pitch...

I haven't tried it but perhaps a combination of a tom and a timpani - 2 staves of course - a little experimentation seems to be in order...

Hopefully you will find something that satisfies...

Any other ideas anyone?

You might want to try Melodic Tom or Taiko Drum (both not on channel 10) to see if that's acceptable on your soundcard.
