Repeat programming

Would someone kindly suggest to me how you program the part of a repeating section where the first and the second playing are identified. The part, that is, that shown above the stave with a number (1 or 2) and a line indicating the duration of the part. There are examples of it in the samples but I see nowhere a method to effect this action. I do not know the proper term for this but it does in fact create a bridge between the first verse rendering and the second. Thanks for any help you can give.

That's called a "Special Ending" in NWC. Enter special endings by pressing "S" or "s" on the keyboard.

Note that you can select which ending (1, 2, etc.) or even specify more than one interation for each section. There is also the "Default" ending, which is the path that will be taken after a D.C. or D.S. instruction.

As Fred said, those are called "special endings."

If you are also using lyrics, be aware that the flow of lyrics within the lyric editor may not work the way you think it should, if you are using special endings with different lyrics. This is more easily learned by doing, than by describing.

Thanks to you Robert and also to Fred. I have now performed the special endings as you suggested and it registers as such on the score for 1st and 2nd rendering, but when I play it, at the second playing (repeat) it plays the first part over again and ignores the several measures of #2. What am I missing?

Did you put the same Special Ending objects on /all/ staves of your work? If so, there are other things to look at: double barlines or section-close barlines in the middle of the piece can cause unexpected results. Did you put a section-close barline after the last Special Ending?

Hope this helps.

If you look in the Samples folder, you will see some examples of repeats, along with explanations in File | Info.

I think the problem in Reply 4 may arise because both 1st and second time endings are ticked in the dialogue box associated with the first ending.

My intuition says that the selection should operate as radio buttons so that each ending would be played only once. However, that shows how wrong one can be to trust one's intuition. Probably because I don't play or sing songs I very rarely come across a special ending that needs to be played, say, for the fist, third and fifth verses. But these occasions do arise and so NWC has provided suitable flexibility to achieve this.
