Ties and slurs

First of all, thanks for your newly released version (v1.7). I find your enhancements very useful...

Now the question... I have been notating a choral piece with S1 and S2 parts, A1, A2, etc. I've initially used the layering feature to separate the 2 soprano parts. However, when I layer both staffs for printing, there are measures that doesn't look good, since both parts have notes on the same pitch (position) but differing durations (i.e., the other note is no longer visible).
So I try vertical chords to make the s2 note visible... but then, I encounter another problem, S1 has a dotted half note, S2 has a half note and a quarter note (time sig is 3/4) all on the same pitch (E). The dotted half note should tie to the note on the next measure but instead ties to the quarter note. Did I miss a command or property? Is there a way for me to specify which note should be "tied" or "slurred"?

Why not treat your chorale score as you would an orchestral ensemble or symphony... print each part separately? Layering can be confusing; I find it most useful for condensing staff structures which are too large to fit on my monitor screen, all at once.

Anna, your problem with staff layering is easily overcome. Just select one of the overlapping notes for editing and change the "extra note spacing" property to some value other than 0. Generally 1 is enough, though on rare occasions I've gotten as high as 2 -- never higher.

For example, imagine you're overlaying a stem-up quarter note and a stem-down half-note on the same pitch. (If you're British, that's a crotchet and a minim respectively.) Simply highlight the stem-down note, press <Ctrl>-e, go to the "Notes" tab if you're not there already, and change "extra note spacing" to 1.
