Aligning rests

I ran into a problem when having to add a couple of extra spaces before a note to properly align the word below it. I put the verse number in using: 1._Begin Verse and moved the note above the first word by putting in a couple of blanks. That's fine if it's always a note, but sometimes there is a rest in another staff. There is no way I can figure out to move that rest to sit under the note in the staff above it, or even if you do layering that rest cannot be aligned under the note above it. I don't know if I've explained my predicament clearly enough.

G'day Allan,
something that came up in a recent thread somewhere...

If you change your lyric line to have:

"1. Begin Verse" instead of using the underscore to join it up as in your example, then you can:

Place a grace note at the same pitch as the first note and tie it to the first note - this keeps the playback sounding right
Set the properties for both the grace note and the first note to "Lyric Syllable Always" - this gets the syllable alignment right - the "1." is under the grace note and the "Begin" is under the first note.
Set the properties for the grace note to Visibility Never - this stops the grace note and tie from printing.

Your rests etc. in other staves will line up with the first note and not the grace note.
