saving downloaded midi files

Hi, I'm having trouble downloading midi files to my new computer, it used to do it automatically on my old one. Now it just plays them in a quicktime browser, doesn't actually download them to a file on the hard drive. If anyone has any ideas they would be much appreciated!!

Instead of double left clicking on the link to the midi to open it, try Right clicking and choose the Save option from that menu.

I think your problem is that Quicktime is installed as a plugin to your internet browser.  Since it is a new computer, it may have been set up that way by the manufacturer.

Read this: "Prevent Programs From Changing Your File Types" at http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article02-040 for some general info.

Check what's running in the background by looking at your task manager.  If Quicktime starts every time you boot, and if you don't want it to, you may be able to remove it from your startup routine.  Click the Start menu (if you have Windows) and choose Run.  Type MSConfig.  This should give you your System Configuration Utilities.  Choose StartUp, and disable Quicktime if it's there.

Quicktime also has an option called "kiosk mode," which prevents the file from being saved from the Quicktime player. I'm not sure whether kiosk mode is set at the file server, or at the player itself.
