On German keyboards, ^ is a dead key (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_key). Thus, adding or removing marcato signs is not as simple as on English keyboards. This has bugged me for years - but today, I researched (well ...) this problem and came up with the following solution:
Type ^ and then a key that does nothing. The two most useful combinations are, in my opinion:
- ^ y if you want to use only the left hand;
- ^ รถ if you want to use both hands.

not work, for whatever reason - I suspect NWC captures the space and wants to create a rest, but cannot do that with items selected, so it just ignores the combination ... or the like).
