Title: Why is there extra space on a hidden clef?
Post by: Warren Porter on 2007-08-08 03:52 pm
In this file: http://bellsouthpwp.net/w/b/wbport/mandolin_3.nwc (http://bellsouthpwp.net/w/b/wbport/mandolin_3.nwc), I have a portable Tempo staff which is layered under whatever part is being printed at the time.  I was wondering why is there extra space in front of the hidden treble clef (under the 1st Mandolin part)?

The space you see in the editor is due to the fact that the hidden clef is not vertically aligned with the other visible clefs (in the other staves).

This is an over simplification, but since the clef and key signature are hidden, they more or less free fit into the space between the visible time signature and the start of the staff.

The best workaround is simply to hide the tempo staff unless you use it for markings you need on the other ones.  If you must keep it visible, layered,  just delete the clef - it's redundant.

David:
I was using Jeff Adlon's idea from our user tip https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=2316.msg12873#msg12873 (https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=2316.msg12873#msg12873) and the staff appears in every part.  I took out the clef and key signature and the tempo marking backs up a little.  It's not a biggie, though.
