Title: Upgrade refuses to install
Post by: BobPetty (S. Glos -UK) on 2012-01-10 09:35 PM
Hi Everyone

I downloaded the 2.5 upgrade, but it refuses to install, stating that a properly installed copy of Noteworthy 2.1 was not found, or has been altered since installation.  I have copied the install file to the Setup folder under the program installation directory (as I am sure I did when I upgraded to 2.1) without success.  Would it be possible to have the install as a ZIP file so a manual installation could be carried out?  Or is there a registry key I can add?  Any ideas welcome.

PS.  The Viewer upgraded to 2.5 flawlessly by RUNning the install file from the link on the forum

Thnaks in advance

Bob,

The upgrade is what it says  it is. An upgrade. So if you don't have a properly installed copy, it can't upgrade. I suggest you re-install NoteWorthy 2.1 from your disc. You may need to uninstall before doing that. Once you have installed version 2.1 properly, then run the upgrade.

By the way, you do not need to copy the 2.5 upgrade to the program installation directory. As long as you have installed NoteWorthy 2.1 properly, it will find the program wherever you run the upgrade from.

If you try this and still have no success, I suggest an email to NoteWorthy Support.

Thanks for the reply, Richard.  I don't think I have had installation media since I originally installed NWC around 1994 (or was it 1996?)  Since then, all I have ever done is copy the entire folders over to PCs as they have been replaced/upgraded, and, in the case of Version 1, manually edited the NWC.INI file to register it to me - something which does not appear to be necessary in Version2

Well I should think you must have had something when you upgraded from 1.75 to 2.0. Either a disc or an Email from NoteWorthy with the authenticity codes.

If you can't find these to re-install version 2.0 / version 2.1 then I suggest an email to NoteWorthy support is your only valid option.

Good luck.

The Authenticity ID is always sent by mail (never e-mail).

There is not a free upgrade path for a NWC 1.* license purchased back in the 1990s. However, an old license does qualify for the discounted upgrade pricing:

I do have an authenticity ID for NWC2 which came by post in September 2008.  It is four groups of five characters.  Clearly this ID needs to be input somewhere - I can't see any obvious place to start the ball rolling from within NWC2, so if Noteworthy Online could give me any pointers I would be obliged.  I am quite happy using Regedit so there's no need to write me a .REG or .INF file!
Thanks in advance.
