Title: Problem entering parts of different durations on a single staff
Post by: Ross on 2011-07-31 06:24 PM
I am arranging a piano score that requires two (or more) parts on the treble staff and two or more parts on the bass staff. The top part of the treble staff uses dotted quarter and eight note values in the melody, while the lower part on the treble staff - and both parts on the bass staff - move in even quarter note values underneath. When I enter all of the parts, one of two things happens: (1) during playback, the meter between the upper (melody) part and the lower parts is not retained properly, resulting in more beats in a measure than the meter calls for;  and (2) the measure bar lines of the treble and bass staves no longer match up.  Each of the four parts is metrically correct (all are in 4/4 meter), but they do not syncronize properly with each other.  Can anyone offer a possible solution, or is this a limitation of Noteworthy?

This sketch approximates the problem.

X.       x  X   X  |                           X  = quarter note
X   X   X   X  |                               X. = dotted quarter
X   X   X   X  |                               x  = eighth note
X   X   X   X  |                               |   = bar line

NWC2 handles this. You may like the tighter spacing of the second measure.

For more complicated patterns, you may need to put each voice on its own staff and layer them
