I want to change the spacing of the notes so that I can affect the length of measures. How can I do this without changing the staff size? Anyone deal with this issue before? Thanks.

NWC currently has only two ways to calculate the length of measures ; check or uncheck "increase note length..." in File/PageSetip/Options tab to choose which seems the best for you.
Otherwise use item text containing spaces (refer to the link above, or https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=495).
