Title: Hiding triplets
Post by: Flurmy on 2010-06-15 12:27 PM
Often, for pieces that use a lot of triplets, only the first 3 o 4 triplets are marked as such, then there is "simile" and the triplet mark is omitted (only visually, of course).
Does exist a trick to do so in NWC?

"Digital Whiteout".  Select a font like Webdings that has block characters, set it as a user font, create a text entry justified however it needs to be to overlay the "3" and set it to a highlight that you've set to white.

If the piece is in 4/4, do the parts where you don't want triplets in 12/8. Hide the 12/8 and make the appropriate tempo change.

Lawrie,
using digital whiteout I can easily (... more or less :-) erase the "3", but what about the parenthesis?

Rick,
I supposed something like that, but when the score is composed by more staves, one with triplets and the others without, does they stay in synch?

They do if you use hidden rests. Unfortunately, since you cannot easily hide ties or augmentation dots, this sometimes means a separate playback staff.

I have found for the most part that I can position the "whiteout" where I need it.  Multiple characters, even multiple text entries sometimes.

Warren,
I had the feeling of having already read something about it but I was unable to find it.
Thank you for the link.
