Title: A tacet staff before end of piece, can one do that?
Post by: Frybyte on 2010-04-09 04:41 PM
I know how to invisiblize all the notes/rests/barlines in a staff, I have a score where the top vocal line stops well short of the end of the piece and would like to just have it (the staff) stop.
But if I stop it there's no more piece after it in printed view or in print.
So is there a way to end a staff and still have the printed piece continue?
Thanks

G'day Frybyte,
the answer is not really.  It is possible to use "digital whiteout" to cover the staff lines with white block characters so that the staff lines are invisible after the point at which you want the staff to stop, but the vertical space that the staff uses will still be used.

LilyPond (http://lilypond.org/) can do this, and providing your music isn't too complex, my Noteworthy to LilyPond translator could well be able to take your Noteworthy score and translate it direct to LilyPond.  See http://www.holmessoft.co.uk/homepage/software/NWC2LY/index.htm for details.
