Title: Phrase break question.
Post by: kinseek on 2009-03-02 01:52 AM
I am looking for a way to insert a phrase break in the staff. In my nomenclature a phrase break in a vocal staff looks like this // (two slash marks).

Put two slash marks in as text.

It is called a "cæsura". It should start on the fourth line from the bottom of the staff.

Thanks again. I was a vocal major, but never heard that term. I never stop learning.

"Cæsura" is the original latin spelling.
The most often used spelling I saw is the italian "cesura".

By the way: the actual sound is the same, unless you use the German latin reading: "ka-esura"...

...I've had conductors call a cæsura "railway tracks"

-- the fermata "the pig's eye"

--the coda sign "the gunsight"

Well, in Italy the "fermata" (that, by the way, is itself Italian and means "stop") is called "corona", that means "crown".
