Title: Automatic tie
Post by: vallynmar on 2009-02-02 01:03 AM
I am entering a previously composed score into noteworthy in order to learn my part, the score comes to a point where there is a master repeat with two special endings and another repeat right after the second ending.   This repeat has two measures.  I get to the second to last note of the second measure and a tie automatically appears coming from the note and going backward to the second special ending.  The two notes are not the same, I have not selected tie or slur, I've highlighted all notes and the slur or tie icon button do not show as selected, I can put the note anywhere else (up or down) on the staff and the tie goes away but if I put the note on the staff where it belongs I get this tie no matter what I do.  Can anyone help?

There is a "hanging tie" from a previous bar somewhere...  These can sometimes be a little difficult to locate, but I would look at every preceding note on the same line or space, starting from the closest bar and working backwards until I found one with a tie attribute that is not resolved - You might also try a find by expression |Edit|Find| but I'm not certain of the required syntax...

I've highlighted all notes and the slur or tie icon button do not show as selected
In a selection, if any Note/Rest/Chord/RestChord is slurred, the slur button will show as selected. The tie button is different. It will only show as selected if a single Note/Chord/RestChord is selected and it contains a tie. To find ties, invoke Find (Ctrl+F). For 'By Expression', use:

It is most likely that your problem is a "hanging tie".

thank you for the replies.  I had a wrong note in the second ending and when I came to the right note further along it was trying to tie it to the note just before the special endings.  So it was sort of a hanging tie.
