Pitched Instruments have their ranges but unpitched purcussion instruments don't go in ranges BUT size which STILL affects the sound. So what are the different sizes of a Bass drum, or a Gong (Tam-tam), Triangle, Cymbal or a Cymbal?
G'day Kristopher,
umm, depends on your synth and whether you choose pitched percussion (there is some) OR are using a drum kit on channel 10.
In your samples directory there is a "drumref" file - check it out for the drumkit sounds... Your itree will help you find the rest.
David Berger, who transcribed so many Ellington recordings, recommends a 22 inch bass drum for the Essentially Ellington charts. There's a concert band in BC that has a huge concert bass drum - I'm going to guess the heads are in the order of 45 to 50 inches in diameter - and you feel it more than hear it.
