Title: Putting 8va in songs
Post by: PIRAHNAPLANT on 2008-01-05 04:43 AM
I have tried to do this by putting a treble clef at the start of the song, then right after it I put a hidden octave up clef and a text expression saying "8va", but when I do this, on every line of the print preview page, there is no clef at the start of the line. Can someone help?

When you make a clef invisible, it stays invisible until the next one that is specifically made visible again. The solution is to use a hidden staff. Copy the notes under the 8va on the visible staff, paste them into the hidden staff, and place the transposed treble clef in front of them. Then go back to the visible staff and mute the notes under the 8va.
Or simply mute the entire visible staff and create a separate, hidden playback staff, as many of us do. Then you can do whatever it takes to get the sound right without worrying about the appearance.
Hope this helps....

In NWC2 you can also insert an instrument patch with an octave shift in the transposition - don't bother with sending any instrument patch changes etc., just the transposition...

You can attach the 8va and ¬ to the Instrument patches
