Title: Trills
Post by: Scott Moore on 1998-07-09 04:00 AM
How do you create a trill? It's in one of the samples, so it must be possible...

You need to make another staff where the trill is written out (in 32nds, etc.). If you want to print the score, make this staff hidden and add a Text "tr." over the real staff. But when it's played, it will sound like a trill.

It still doesn't sound entirely correct because the written (continuous) note sounds in addition to the trill sound. Is there a way of muting an individual note, but retaining its presence on the staff and print?

How do I enter a trill symbol?

You can mute a note using a hidden ppp (pianissimo) dynamic, then restoring the original dynamic with another hidden dynamic. A bit messy. It would be really nice if every insertable symbol could be hidden!

I thought you would play in a trill through the midi if you were recording midi for the purpose of performance.
Otherwise I'd think there would/should be *the* trill symbol that one could automatically place in a score for live perfomance.

I have had to use 32nd and 56th notes to attain the "trill" effect...

56th notes? Where did you find those? ;-)
