The hanging rectangle is a whole rest. If you see the same thing sitting ON the middle line of a staff, then it's a half rest.

It wasn't clear what Ryralane was asking about, so since Eric dealt with the status bar, I thought it wouldn't hurt to touch on the notation itself. Some users are very new to notation.
