My song has an intro, and a couple spots <intro, verse, spiel of music, verse, coda, verse, chorus> anyway... <And I apologize I dont know my music terminology, I just know how to read it, the classic 'get that doohickey' mechanic right?> ANYWAY... I cant get the derned lyrics to start where they need to start, the lyrics always start at the start of the intro, start of the song, not the start of the verse, the open repeat, then Senuedo thingy, whatever, i just cant get the lyrics to work there! help! I also want to be able to stop lyrics, then start again between verse, chorus... how do i?
i put a little - for every note that has to be skipped

there are a couple of ways to prevent lyrics from appearing below the "wrong" notes:
1) If the note should NEVER have a lyric syllable associated with it then set the notes' properties to "lyric syllable | never". The notes can be done individually or if you select a bunch of 'em (like at the intro) and then press <alt-enter> you'll get the properties dialogue. From there on the "Notes" tab find the "Lyric Syllable" field and select "never".
2) If the note should not have a lyric syllable sometimes and other times it should have one, the default "don't print me" character is the underscore "_" - this is placed in the lyric editor at the appropriate location.

You can also press CTRL-E to "Edit" the properties. While Alt-Enter works fine, I only mention that because I like to keep my right hand over on the arrow keys or on the mouse, and I can press Ctrl-E easily with just my left hand. Both work, but I thought I'd point out the alternate method.

I'm just new to NW, so please forgive my ignorance; what I do for the Intro is create a lyric staff with rests where I don't want lyric notes played, and use a separate staff below it for instrumental accompaniment. However, I also have a question regarding flow and notes...
Regarding flow in my songs, I have a chorus which should repeat after most verses, but not all. Is there a way to make the chorus appear just once, with each verse in a separate lyric, and to direct the flow to the chorus at appropriate moments?
When I have a verse with more or less syllables in a measure than has another verse for the same measure, how do I allow for them? As an example, if I say "rail-way" in one verse, requiring two notes, and the verse below it says "train" at the same beginning point, how do write the notation for both?
Yes Bill, NWC is very clever with repeats. You must do the following on all staves including piano staves if you have them:
Let's say you want to play the chorus after the 1st and 2nd verses, then skip it after the third verse, and play it again after the 4th.
Place a Master Repeat Close (Hotkey 'B') at the end of your verse, click immediately before it and press key S (hotkey for <Special Ending>). Tick "Third ending" and un-tick any others that may be ticked. Now go to the end of the chorus and place a second Master Repeat Close. Again, click before the repeat, press <S> and un-tick '3' but tick 1,2,4.
Violà! It should play as you have directed.

For your "Rail-way" vs. "Train" problem see Lawrie's reply above. Just type <Space Underscore> after "Train" and you'll place the next lyric syllable under the note following "-way".
On reading over my reply above, it struck me that I may have confused you if you are unfamiliar with NWC. Forgive me if I appear to <teach Grandma to suck eggs> in the following:
I had presumed that you would have written the music for verse 1 followed immediately by the chorus, and the Lyric for verse 1 followed by the chorus on Lyric Line 1.
If you want the chorus syllables to be highlighted during playback, you'll have to copy the chorus lyric onto Lyric Lines 2 & 4.
Sorry, I just noticed that my suggested procedure plays a fifth verse and chorus -- Senior's moment! ;-(. If you only wanted to play the fourth verse and chorus, just un-tick the '4' in the final special ending. The numbers actually refer to REPEATS.
