Title: Remove tempo marking
Post by: Jane on 2005-06-17 06:11 PM
I'm sure the answer to this must be very obvious, but I have been looking through the NCW User's Guide, the help files and this forum and have totally failed to stumble on the answer.

I have inserted a tempo timing (Insert - Tempo - Quarter note = 120).  Which visibly shows a crotchet = 120.  But I now want to remove it totally and don't seem to see how to do it.

I have seen that you can make the "visibility = never", but that doesn't remove the existing tempo, it just seems to make a new one invisible.

Sorry, for asking such a basic question, but I would be very grateful if someone could tell me what to do.

Well one thing that you can do is highlight it and delete it press “delete”. If you want to change the tempo highlight it and right click on it, select tempo and change it.

Thanks Clemente, but I don't even seem to manage to do that.  If I highlight it and press delete, it also highlights the notes on the stave below it and then deletes the notes but leaves the tempo (crotchet=120) still there.

Highlighting it, and right clicking, doesn't give me a tempo option.

I'm obviously highlighting in wrongly.  How do you highlight just the tempo, without highlighting the music below?

you have to highlight the tempo mark's "anchor" which is a small diamond shape to the immediate left of the mark that is a very faint gray

You're on the wrong track, so to speak. The tempo is not on the bar you are working on. Maybe you have layered staves.
Do this: File, Page Setup, Contents tab, Allow Layering = No.
Now, you will see the diamond appearing on a specific staff. Go to this staff, using PgDn and/or PgUp. Highlight the diamond, and press Delete or Alt-Enter, according to taste.

I feel a 'Hey Presto' coming on.

by the way, it's 11:37 pm over here... time to stifle the last yawn and give in to the next.

Oh dear, I can't even tell the time.  It was only 10.38pm here - just felt like 11.38pm.  No wonder I get stuck with basic things in NCW!
