Title: Note spacing
Post by: Kirk S. on 2005-05-16 12:23 AM
I want to put one note on C in the Soprano line and one on D on the Alto line, one step apart, but they run too close together to be distinguishable.  Can you move one note just slightly to the side?

Try using a 2 note chord - enter the first note, then move up or down, press control-enter to enter the second.

I am writing for SATB, so if I make the Alto note a chord on the Soprano line with the Soprano note, then how would I make the Alto line's measure equal?  In other words, if it is 3/4 time and I take the Alto quarter note and make it a chord on the Soprano line, the Alto line is short 1/4th.

Hi Kirk,
set extra note spacing on the Alto staff for that one note:
Select the note and go to its' properties page.  On the "Notes" tab adjust "Extra Note Spacing" until the result is correct.  "1" should suffice...

Another method would be to fill the time with rests, then make the rests invisible (poperties, visibility, show never).

When layered setting the lower one one step apart in properties comes out well in closed SATB score. It's OK too  with an overlap.
