Title: Big bottom margin --Why?
Post by: Joe Frawley on 2005-02-20 08:50 PM
Hi,

I just began using NWC2 and have found that when printing my scores, there is always a large blank space at the bottom of the page.  I try adjusting the "Bottom of Page" margin in "Page Setup" , but this doesn't seem to help.  Anyone know what is causing this?

Check your printer setup for paper size.

Alson, NWC doesn't align vertically, so it may just be that you don't have enough staves to fill the page, or perhaps you've got too large a setting for the staff lower vertical size.

I think that what Joe means is that in version 1, a page with a half-inch bottom margin turns into a page with a nearly one-inch margin in version 2 - without doing anything to it.
And resetting the margins doesn't help, and neither does resetting the staff size.
I don't see why NoteWorthy Software made this change in the first place, and I hope that when version 2 is finally released that this behavior will not exist.
If there is some way for us as users to change this, I can't see it.  Also, I have nearly 3,000 NWC1 files - I don't want to alter each and every one...

You can't change it. There was a problem with copyright notices being chopped off; which was fixed – and, boy!, how it was fixed!

Now the first page is a mess and there just doesn't seem to be any willpower being applied to sorting it out.

I too was wondering if I was doing something wrong.  There has to be a better fix than that.  The first page looks goofy.  I've fiddled with all the parameters with no satisfactory results.. Noteworthy?

i find that setting the upper staff properties to 8 fills the entire first page (usually). then i go to page setup to fine tune it

8 is fine for upper staff setting if you don't have a flute part, for example.  It is time for Noteworthy to correct this. It's sad that all the other wonderful changes in NWC2 have to be at the cost of this lower margin issue.  There are ways to make pages look better, but they usually amount to having more margin space all around.

I've never had a problem with copyright notices being chopped off.  I can't imagine why they would be.  I've had all my margins set to .5 inches without any problems on my old system, and now .55 inches on my newer system, still without any problems.
I do hope this issue is resolved before the official release of version 2...

Rikbel,

So am I.  I'll try this.

I do worry, though about low bass parts and high top-staff parts.....

Thank you SO much, Eric and staff (or is it "stave?").
