Title: Chant Recitatives
Post by: Philip Dykes on 2005-02-02 06:15 PM
Whats the best way of notating chant recitatives? We don't have a double whole note? I've been writing out all the quarter notes, then hiding all except the first and last. There's gotta be a better way? I've tried writting all the text on the first quarter note, except the last syllable, but that outs a 'hole' around both sides of the text. Also, why does NWC compress and expand texts. I have to go back constantly and add hidden barlines to get the words to look right. Why can't texts simply extend over the end of a page? There's gotta be a better way to do that too? I'm looking to make Finale-looking Russo-Slavic Chant Arrangements without the expense of Finale, and without having to learn a complex system. I need some help and advice here.

Thanks,
Michael (Philip)

There is no double whole note in NWC.

Your best option for making the appearance of a double whole note might be to use two whole notes tied together, make them invisible, then insert a double whole note glyph using Insert, Text Expression.
