Title: feature request: live scrolling
Post by: user111 ("ME") on 2004-12-22 08:54 AM
Why doesn't NWC update the screen imeadiately when you're using the scrollbar? It would only update it when you release the scrollbar, unlike a word processor. (It would be much easier to find measures if it did.)

Please clarify your question.

I think I asked for this before -- it would be a very useful feature.

To clarify, David, in Microsoft Word 2000 and above, you'll notice that when you grab the scroll bar, the screen will immediately move in the opposite direction.  In NoteWorthy Composer, however, you have to release the mouse button before the screen is updated.

Aside.      I notice the default font has been changed to Tahoma - stylesheets are wonderful. Having now said that, I'll gonna look at the stylesheet ... and of course I'm wrong - its Verdana.  Anyway, I generally like a sans-serif font for menu items, but I'm not sure if its the best font for the forum.  Serif text is easier to read.  Also, can you (Mr. E. NoteWorthy Online) change to font in the Reply box to match the font in the forum? It would help when aligning things.

Peace and Merry Christmas.

Aside.  Thank you!

The live scrolling feature is relatively trivial to implement, but ultimately somewhat annoying on all but the fastest systems. It would have to be optional. We will consider such an option.

ps. Francis, you are very observant.

An option for live scrolling would be great!  Thank you for adding it to your 'consider' list... A good first step :-)

Upon further review, the next release of NWC2 and NWC2 Viewer will include live scrolling without the need to select an option.

Just a thought: if we can scroll the viewer, then would it not be reasonable to be able to start playback from the scrolled position?

Personally, I think it would not be a great idea to start playback from the scrolled position; I assume you meant horizontal scrolling.

Possibly as an option, but not by default. It is after all quite trivial to click once with the mouse button once you get where you want in the score. What if you don't want that behaviour, but instead just want to take a peek at something somewhere else? If the cursor moves with the scrolling, then you would lose sight of where you were.

I think it would be far more annoying having to find the spot where you were last, before scrolling, instead of clicking once with the mouse button after you have finished scrolling.

But the automatic updating of the screen at the same time as you scroll sounds as a good idea.

Just my 2¢...

I assume you meant horizontal scrolling.

I'm not sure how you would use vertical scrolling to alter playback position! ;-)

I was talking about the viewer. You can click it as much as you want, you won't achieve anything.

Oops! Sorry! Need to read more carefully. The thread was mainly about NWC, so I assumed your post was as well.
