Title: Extending last measure
Post by: Kevin P. on 2004-10-16 01:33 AM
Hi everyone!  I just discovered something that I didn't know about, but had wished was a feature of NWC.  Turns out I can do it!  I was so exited I wanted to share this info with others.

When I finished a particular song, I wanted the last measure to be extended to the end of the line across the page.  If I select "Extend last system" in the page properties, the last system is extended, but all the notes are scrunched up on the left side of the page and aren't spaced out across the line.  This is ugly (IMO).

To fix this, I set the last bar in the staff properties to "Open (hidden)".  I made my ending bar the usual close section--which I manually insert--but had the "Force system break" property set.  This caused NWC to end the last system at the right margin and space out the notes across the measure.  Nothing is printed on the line below it (since there's nothing to print).  Voila!

I hope this is helpful to someone out there.  I thought I had read about someone wanting something like this in the forum, but I couldn't find anything through searching.  Perhaps this would make a great tip for the user tips page?

Kevin, that's a wonderful discovery, it seems to work like a dream.  Thank you.  It doesn't seem to matter if the staff has an open ending or a section close ending, it works anyway (in Version 2, anyhow).

Cool.

That tip was written about two years ago...
