Title: Volume Slider
Post by: Kevin Ward on 2004-09-10 01:30 PM
I was sorry to see that the new alpha version 2 of NoteWorthy Composer still does not have a volume slider despite asking for one in a wish list.  It is no joke for the neighbours when one plays songs in the middle of the night and a previous program has set the volume to high.  While one frantically searches for the external control the walls are merrily vibrating away.

Most music programs these days have some form of quick adjustment however rudimentary.

Use the stop button while you hunt for the volume control. I will not use loudspeakers that do not have a physical knob to adjust the volume. Some things in life still need to be "real" and not "virtual".

I use the volume control that is in the system tray.

Well there is usually an alternative to the best but not as convenient.  My speakers too have a volume adjustment but out of reach.  If your suggestions are valid arguments why do other programs include a means of sound adjustment ?

I know many (all?) multimedia programs have volume sliders.  I'm not sure that NWC claims to be a multimedia program.

Do other notation processors have sliders?  I don't see one in Finale 2002 (although it's got a number of menus, and I may be missing it).

It's an interesting question.  Which programs that are dedicated notation processors have a slider that you're aware of, Kevin?

It seems that you all want status quo and are not too interested in the practicalities of life.  I am not a musician and do not have the gift of that kind of creativity but I still find Noteworthy Composer useful and have found out many things about music purely by being able to see the music in action.

Hi Kevin,

I think we're on the same page.  If a slider can be added without a major increase in the size of the program or its cost, I'm all for it.  It may take a while though.  Did you post your slider suggestion to the wish list?

Try Global Audio Control GAC174.exe free program about 580k download, mine came through Cnet but it's probably everywhere. You can configure it to use keyboard shortcuts i.e. Control + Up arrow to increase volume and Control+ Down arrow to decrease Volume. I just configure it to Master Volume but the options are there to set other parameters and with other keys.
