Title: accidentals problem
Post by: user111 on 2004-08-17 11:52 AM
when you put middle C# and put another note C (the one
above it) with no accidental sign, the note is still
sharped (even with a clef change)
"accidentals apply to all octaves
(even with clef changes)" so if I add the accidental
sign manually and used audit barlines/eharmonic
spelling, the sign is removed" I would like this fixed

You're right, this is one little flaw in NWC. Accidentals should only affect the note before which they are placed, not the same note on another octave.

You can get around this by inserting a natural sign, and at least by my experience, Audit Enharmonic Spelling doesn't remove the natural accidental.

actually, "audit barlines" doesn't either
but it's a very big problem when importing
midi files

You can at least fix up the problem quicker by using the new "Find" command. After you've done all your auditing of accidentals, press ctrl+F and select "by category/unassigned octave accidental". It'll find them all quickly and you can add accidentals as needed. Pressing F3 will repeat the previous "find".

sorry, I misunderstood you, I meant that
when I want the higher/lower note to
also have an accidental, and that I select
"audit barlines/enharmonic spelling" , the
higher/lower accidental is removed
