Title: Drumline
Post by: jay123 on 2004-05-19 11:57 PM
Hey guys i am from a High school drumline. I am looking for a new candence to play next year.  I want it to be groovy and fun.  I would like it to have a great beat so that people can dance to it or say wow thats kool.  Something not to hard but fun to play and hear.

Have you tried writing your own?

Use a few staffs set to channel 10, set the instrument for those staffs to acoustic grand piano (not drums), and write some notes.  If they don't give the right drum sound, try transposing them up or down a little.

Don't expect a snare drum sound.  I don't think it can be done with the program.  Maybe someone can correct me?

I posted a fife and drum piece called
Black Bear (http://nwc-scriptorium.org/ftp/rock/bbear.nwc) on the Scriptorium which plays fife, and snare and bass drums. The visible drum staff is muted; it is for show only. Clicking File => Page Setup => Contents allows you to reveal the hidden staff where the snare drum part is written. Using Channel 10 and a bass clef in the key of C, the snare drum is the D below the staff. The Infornation embedded in the file gives more details.

I object...
the real way to write great cadences is to tinker
start out with a snare and make a cool part
then go to quads and make a melody that will go with it
then go to bass see where it fits in
and cyms
put this into the softwear and then listen over and over again and patch the insturments correctly add dyns and your set. oh yea dont make it more than one page long trust me people cant remember cadences that are more than one folio page long
