Title: Problem with staccato for two chordmembers
Post by: Niels Overgaard on 2003-12-20 03:14 PM
How do I place the "staccato-dot" for to notes in a chord(a terts with one up-stem and one down-stem) so I can see it?

When I select the two notes - the "staccato-dots" are placed in the middle of everything - and therefore its not possible to see them..

I think the problem is, that the two notes have different directions (stems up - and down).

You can do it with a text based period.

Depending on how well it aligns, you might add a blank space in the same text field.

Aah... okay... Is that the only solution? Very offen somebody must have the same problem... To be precisely everytime one wants to make a terts (a two-note chord on the same staff and with opposite stems) staccato.

Well, for playback it doesn't matter if you can see the staccatto sign or not.  For printing it does.  I tried to find a solution for you, such as using a layered staff with a hidden note set to staccatto, but that hid the dot too.

The text idea was the best I could come up with.  It's a workaround.

NWC will not do everything, but generally you'll find an acceptable workaround.  That is the strength of this amazing program.

You can also layer, and shift the note(s) over so that the staccato dot does not collide with the other voice.

I think we'd still end up with the staccato dot between the stem up top note and the stem down bottom note.

I don't quite understand "shift the note(s) over..." Could you give a bit more detail, please Eric?

A related issue:
The staccato dot is too far to the right, not centered over/under the note head.
Is there some reason for this?
Are there any plans to fix this?
Also, the dot always touches a staff line (unless it is out of the staff), rather than being centered between the staff lines.
