Title: Can we show drum beats as x! format rather than o! format?

Try using bongos or bongos2 font

NWC1.75 doesn't have an internal x! note capability.

Bongos font is not a good way to place a lot of x! notes in NWC1.75. The font can be used, but only as text, which makes it difficult to coordinate with other music.

If your music contains ONLY x! notes, there's an effective hack: Someone created a font like NWCV15, but with drum style notes. The font is substituted in WMFs copied out of NWC and placed in a document. The font and method are at the Scriptorium.

If your music contains a staff of x! notes, with other staves o! notes, then you can use the above hack by copying a separate WMF for the drum staff, and cropping.

Ideally, x! internal to NWC is desired. Maybe it will happen at some future time?

I would also like to see slash-head notes.
The x-head notes are good for my drummer, not for me.
I hope that when the x-heads become internal to NWC that they incorporate slash-heads as well.

Thanks for the replies. I'll live with the o! format for now. The problem was on imported midi files the drums are a little close together for easy reading. I'll spread them manually.

What are slash-heads? I'm familiar with guitar tab but can't think what slash-heads are.

I think they're slash notes are more commonly known as comping notes.  They are a forward slash mark ( / ), and can be by themselves, or have a stem or a stem with a flag.  Doesn't really matter. I've encountered them so far in guitar charts, also in piano charts that I've been copying out.  It would be nice to see them in NWC.

Slash-heads are used when the composer/arranger wants a specific rhythm to be played, rather then "comp-your-own" rhythms.  As David writes, they may have a stem or a stem with a flag, and they may be beamed and tied, just like regular notes.  I have a font which allows stems and stems with flags, but the beams and ties are a no-go.
