In order to speed things up a bit, I have taken a fancy to using the tab key as opposed to the dropdown menu. Now I notice that sometimes when I press tab, it performs the usual tab function, which is switching applicaiton windows, whereas I'd like "tab" to be for the bar line insertion. Any tips how to fix this, I'd love. My gratitude.
Was NWC the active window at the time you tabbed? If it wasn't (for example, if you had something else that took focus away from NWC, like maybe an instant message pop-up), then the tab is not applied within NWC. You first have to be in NWC. Or is that not the problem?
Tabbing through applications windows generally requires that the Alt key be held down at the same time. Perhaps your Alt key is sticking, thus causing the problem.
Also, if you have Windows 2000 or XP, you may have the Sticky Keys feature on in Accessibility Options.
If so, when you strike the shift key five times, Ctrl, Alt and Shift become "sticky".
Have you noticed that the asterisk on the number pad also gives you a bar line? Boy, I like that.

Yes, that's what was asked for, years ago, by ?Sarah? because it's much more practical when having the right hand on the numpad.
And unless you're missing left hand, the tab key should be accessible with this latter.
As a left-hand person, I love the fact that most of the quickkeys are usable with the left hand only (and I'm not talking about NWC only).
If you're not using the numpad, you're probably using the numbers on the top row of the main keyboard. I'm not, because on mine, I'd need to press shift key also... or be uppercase.
