I have a piece of dance music with the repeat pattern
AA BB CC DD EE FF DD EE FF. Each of the sections A - F is
bracketed by master repeats. I put a signo between the
master repeat close of section C and the master repeat
open of section D and a DS al Fine after the master repeat
close of section F. When I play it, however, it plays as
AA BB CC DD EE FF D E F. My more musically-educated friend
tells me that this is not the usual interpretation of the
DS notation. How do I get sections D - F to repeat on the
DS?
NWC follows standard music convention when it comes to D.S. al Fine redirections. Convention dictates that repeats be ignored after a redirection to the Segno mark. This is also true on a da Capo redirection. In both cases, master repeats are ignored by NWC until and unless another redirection occurs by branching to a Coda.
In your scenario, however, you can get around this by using local repeats.
What's the difference between a master repeat and a local repeat with regards to this program? The local repeats allow you to loop more than twice through the same section, but what else?
See the repeat*.nwc samples, and the File Info explanations included in them.
Do you mean "|: A B C :| S. |: D E F D E F :| D.S."???
Try just a Dal Segno and not D.S. al Fine/Coda. That's what I use and it works fine for me. About the repeats, I think he's right about using local repeats. And then just use a different layout if oyu want to print...
Using local repeats worked. Thanks. :)
