Title: Extracting parts for Bb, F, (and Bass Cleft) after transcribing
Post by: Rudy Stubbs on 2003-10-11 07:07 AM
Pardon my newbie-ness....

I'm transcribing for Brass Quintet - Horn in F, Trumpets I & II in Bb, Trombone & Tuba in Bass cleft. I figured out how to print individual parts using the page setup, but my treble cleft parts are written in C.  Is there a way to transpose to the correct key and STILL be able to use the playback (midi) feature on my "conductor's" score?

Thanks in advance,

-Rudy

Select the staff.
Click on the TOOLS menu item.
Click on STAFF TRANSPOSE.

For Horn transpose up a fifth (+7 semitones).
For Trumpet transpose up a tone (+2 semitones).
Be sure to enable UPDATE STAFF PLAYBACK.

Select your choice of Key Signature accidental style.
The OK to update the staff.
Repeat for each instrument.

And there you go!

And by the way, the word is clef, not cleft.

And in some parts of the world it's "cref". See here: Table of Transposing Instruments (http://forum.nifty.com/fmidicla/htmls/ichou.html)
(See especially "Horn written by Old Style", about half-way down the page.)
