Title: Midi Was Working. . .
Post by: Ed Vogel on 2003-06-16 07:05 PM
Hi,
I have a Compaq LTE 5400 that was playing midi files and .nwc files and now it is not. I can't remember doing anything to reconfigure midi in NT Composer but perhaps I tried to redirect midi to the game port to interface a keyboard.. . months ago.

Any hints tips or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
Ed Vogel

Ed, try checking all of the standard things:

One other thing that I have found can be a problem is if some other program is running that has stolen the attention of the speakers. If that happens I can't get any sound out of the program though it appears to be working otherwise. I wonder if something like Real or WinAmp might do this without it being obvious. Just an idea.

Blessings
Graeme

There is one player in particular that likes to turn the volume all of the way down for devices like MIDI synths whenever it is used. You can quickly fix this by opening the Windows Volume Control and checking the mixer sliders.

Dear NWO,
Thanks much for the mixer tip. I wrote and ran a Liberty Basic "midi chord player" program that turns the volume down after the first run. Oh those API calls! I guess it helps to read their docs carefully.

Thanks again,
Ed
