Title: Fonts for whistle tabs
Post by: Dayna F. on 2003-06-11 12:10 PM
I have a true type font file for displaying tabs for the tin whistle. I sucessfully installed the font, defined it as a user font, and can select it from the font menu in page set up.  However, when I try to put the tabs in the lyric line, the tabs don't display, just the letters on the keyboard that correspond to the tabs that I am trying to show.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dayna

The NWC text editor will show computer keyboard letters when you enter the user text, even with a symbolic font. But when you return to the music, you should see the symbols. You should also see the symbols in print preview.

However, if the symbols aren't showing even when you return to the music, it may be (wild guess) that the tin whistle font uses a code page that is not recognized or detected by the NWC text editor. If so, that's a technical thing that might require some massaging of the font. If you have the right to modify the font, put it in a zip file and e-mail it to me. I asked the font's developer if it is okay to modify the font.    I will let you know if my request is approved and then send you the file.

Thanks,

One explanation could be that you have set your font as a User Font, whereas it should be the Staff Lyric Font to display as lyrics.

Ah, good catch, Jussi! Dayna: Try that, first. If it still doesn't work, then get back to me.

Oh, you all are good!  I never would have guessed that.  Thanks a bunch.  In case anyone else is interested in putting whistle tabs in a score in the place of lyrics, check out David Armstrong's web site at http://members.shaw.ca/dabooks/music/.

Thanks again,
Dayna F.

Indeed, the penny whistle font works just fine in NWC. Apparently Jussi was right: Dayna was using the font in the lyrics editor. That's fine, but in NWC 1.75 it would be specified as the lyrics font, rather than User Font.

It could have been used as a User Font, but then it would be placed as "text" rather than "lyrics."

Whats up? I have an issue trying tin whistle tabs for the Boondock Saints theme music...If anyone has the tab or knows where I can get it, that would be great.
Thanks,
Timmy C.
