Title: Entering a note an octave lower with a midi keyboard
Post by: Bill on 2003-01-22 05:16 AM
I've started using an inexpensive 4 octave midi keyboard to enter notes into NWC.  It works OK most of the time, but the problem comes when I need to enter a note that is either higher or lower than the 4 octaves the midi keyboard will generate.

Is there a way to tell NWC to enter the note(s) higher or lower than the keyboard plays?  (I have to enter those notes with the cursor now :( )
TIA, Bill

Not from the MIDI keyboard; you could use a clef that shifts the octave down while entering the notes, then change the clef back to normal when finished.

I don't understand, "use a clef that shifts the octave down," how that works or what it is.

If you want a note low in the bass clef then insert a bass clef with octave shift up - select a clef and look at its properties to see what I mean.

Now a played note will appear an octave lower than it would have done - i.e. in the position you wanted. Then just delete the clef and it sounds and is written an octave down from your keyboard note - QED

Thanks!  That did it.
