I'm not sure (speaking from memory) but decreasing "Maximum single track chord size" in Tools | Options | Import should help.

Wouldn't decreasing "Maximum single track chord size" cause the music to be split into even more staves?  What you would do is increase "Maximum single track chord size," but if you use a large enough number to put everything into treble clef, you're gonna have quite a few leger lines below the staff...

Import the MIDI file.
Export immediately as a Type 0 MIDI file (with filename changed).
Re-import the Type 0 MIDI file but uncheck "Map each midi channel to a separate staff" on the second page of the import dialogue box.
Set "Maximum single track chord size" to the maximum value.
