Title: Transposing
Post by: Mike on 2002-11-26 04:07 PM
I want to enter music for an A clarinet and have the software automatically transpose it for a Bb clarinet. Can it do that?

What is a semitone?

Response by e-mail would be most appreciated: mikean@aol.com

Thanks

Refer here (http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/nwcforum/search.php?type=msgtext&term=transposition) and come back if they don't work.

The short answer is Yes.

I'm not sure what kind of explanation you are looking for here. A semitone is half of a whole tone, and is the smallest interval change that can be notated in NWC. For example, the inetrval between A and Bb is one semitone. If you have a piece written for an A instrument and you want to transpose it for a Bb instrument, you would transpose down 1 semitone (since the Bb instrument actually sounds 1 semitone higher than the A instrument).

Weird, I just had to learn that yesterday. I had to bring out my old music encyclopedia.
Nice to see a chart of everything.
