Title: Corrupt Installation Detected?!
Post by: E.J. Swank on 2002-10-20 03:02 PM
Okay here's the deal. I've been using the evaluation on my computer for quite some time now. I recently got it upgraded which reformatted my hard drive now I don't have the Composer. I downloaded the program and when I would try to install it, a window would come up saying "Corrupt Installation Detected." What is that? Is it the program or my computer? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

See faq #90 (http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/composer/faq/90.htm), which discusses this problem.

I too get the error "Corrupt Installation Detected" reported. I get the same error with 3 different NWC setup files, specifically:
Name            Size            Date (Download?)
NWC32-70.exe    414kb          23/4/2001
NWCSetup.exe    790kb          23/4/2001
NWCSetup.exe    818kb          10/3/2001
NWCSetup.exe    820kb          20/11/2002

I am running Windows 2000 Professional with SP2.
I can find no nwc*.dll or nwc*.ini files on my system, apart from some relating to novell networking, or any significant references to 'nwc' or 'noteworthy' in the registry. The problem is not addressed by FAQ #90.

**** Problem resolved ****
The install runs fine under the Administrator account. The error message "Corrupt Installation Detected" probably applies to any error during installation. If it is possible to be more specific with error messages, it might save some confusion. If it is not possible to generate more specific error messages, then perhaps the error message should read "An error occurred during installation".

If things are called what they are, confusion disappears.

The setup program needs write access to the temp folder for it to do anything. Perhaps this is what caused your problem.

Could you see the setup background when this error was displayed? Or, was it the only thing that was presented to you?
