Title: Chords containing the same note.
Post by: Steve Mackison on 1997-10-31 05:00 AM
Please forgive me if I'm not talking the talk musically, I'm quite the neophyte.

Here's my problem:
I am trying to enter the same note in a chord.
eg., Soprano part sings a G as does the alto.
Is there any way to have NoteWorthy Composer make (or at least display) this chord with two identical notes in the same chord.

Any suggestions wouyld be appreciated.

SIncerely,

Steve

Yes, this is an annoying one. What you need, I think, is the ability to put tails up and
tails down on the same note. I have not been able to get NWC to do this.
Maybe in the next version ? Roll on November 11th ?

NWC is still the best music authoring program around - so no complaints from me
about small problems !!!

This is the 2nd time I've tried to reply but I'm not sure if the 1st
one got through.(I'm new to forums etc)

I don't think NWC will allow tails up and tails down on the same note
which I think is what you need.

I have tried to get it to do this as well.

Still the best music authoring software around though so no complaints from me

This forum is a bit of a trap for the unwary. You need to reload the article to see your reply, otherwise you may be led to believe it didn't get received.

Rather a late post script, but...

The problem goes beyond tails in both directions. I have often needed to have two parts singing the same semibreve - my only solution has been to separate the two parts to individual staves.

Add this to the wish list. I need this when transcribing
fiddle tunes, e.g., where the same note is played on two
strings, so it's not just a "vocal" thing. And, it really
doesn't work to write it out in two staves in my case, since
it's only a single instrument playing the two notes. It
wouldn't have to be a chord notation change, just let me
set the tail up, down, or *both* for any note(s).

The final release of version 1.50 will support a two notes in the same position on the staff, provided all remaining notes in the chord with their stem up are above all stem down notes. In other words, you will be able to form a chord that contains a single note with two stems; one going up and one going down.
