Title: How to generate a MIDI file from NWC
Post by: Michel on 2001-11-28 05:00 AM
Hello,

I have tried NWC. It works fine to create your own songs. But I can't save my songs as MIDI format : the MIDI file is generated but with no sound ..... I am using Windows Media Player which works fine with other sounds file.

To my knowledge, if you save in MIDI format, it saves exactly as you hear the file in NWC (i.e. if some staves are muted, they won't be exported. Hope I'm not wrong)

BUT there are 2 types of Midi, type 0 and type 1; did you try both formats?

And finally, did you close NWC prior to listening with Windows Media Player? In some cases (in NWC, go to Tools/Options/Midi, Port Usage : select "While Playing" to have the minimum of interaction) the midi port can not be opened, but in that case you should see a warning message.

HTH either!

Great,

I did not close NWC prior to listening with Windows Media Player ..... And I did not know I had to . But now after closing NWC it works in both format (which did not work in both format before)

Thanx

You don't have to close NWC if you change the value of the "Port Usage" field under Tools/Options/Midi. This field controls how long NWC keeps control of the Midi port, preventing other applications (including Media Player) from having access to it. I've set mine to "While Playing", which causes NWC to leave the MIDI port free any time that it's not actively playing a file.
