Title: midi input and key signatures - HELP PLEASE
Post by: Bonnie Morton on 2001-09-08 04:00 AM
I know there have been several threads related to transposition, accidentals etc. but I still can't get my midi input into the right key.

Using record play from a Midi keyboard, I open the waltz rhythm template (in key of C? - except there is no key notation on the cleff)and start playing along. My song is in E flat. When I 'import recording' it shows up on a staff in C with accidentals.

I 'insert/key signature E flat' on the import staff, 'tools/force accidentals' and then 'transpose staff' 0 to no avail. My staff music is still full of D sharps etc.

I've only been using NoteWorthy for about two weeks, so I hope the veterans out there can provide some help. I'm obviously missing something.

All help appreciated.

Bonnie

This procedure just changed in the most recent releases, and some of the documentation is out of sequence.

If you are using the latest NWC update (1.70 + Update 9), then a Transpose of 0 semitones won't really do anything unless the piece is in one of the ambiguous key signatures. You can use the Tools | Audit Enharmonic Spelling command to respell into a new key.
