Title: HELP! Is there anyway to make it play softer?
Post by: Daniel on 2001-09-07 04:00 AM
I am composing a midi with NWC 1.70 +9.
The song should be soft, but when NWC playbacks it, it sounds like MAD. For example, when I first ask it to playback the song, it's like bang!...bang!...bang!
Is there any way that I can make it to play softly?? As I would play on a real piano?

I know the Performance Style is not working, but is there any way to make it play softer?

You also have control over volume at the system level. If you're running 32-bit Windows there is probably a loudspeaker icon on your taskbar. Click on this and it will open a "Volume Control" applet where you can adjust output levels to your satisfaction. The same applet can be found (on NT, at least) at Start/Programs/Accessories/Multimedia/Volume Control. There's also a volume slider in Start/Settings/Control Panel/Multimedia.

You can add dynamics all through a performance to give it a more life-like feel. Take a look at my NWC rendition of Beethoven's 6th Symphony for an example of performance dynamics for crescendos in a mostly very soft piece.

You might also try adjusting the staff volume from the default (?) 127 (the maximum volume level)

It's under Staff Properties / MIDI
