I own the new version of NoteWorthy and for some reason either i dont know how to save my created songs as a midi or its not working. Could someone explain how to save a song to a midi file on my hardrive???????
1. go to File > Save As
2. click the box that says Standard NWC File
3. then choose Type 0 or Type 1 midi then click save
If that's what you've already been doing but it wont work, you might have to re-install NWC
The Export function was replaced by the Save As function in the latest release.
I have tried them both, and neither of those seem to work. I can save the file, but when I try to open it with another player, it doesn't play anything. (No Sound)

I tried to duplicate your problem and had more success than I expected. I can save as midi with no problem - but I can't hear any sound either. In fact, I can't hear ANY midi file. I recently upgraded Windows Media player to the latest version and I know it worked a week ago. File associations are fine.
I guess I'll be doing some digging to find out what blew up. I'll post if I find anything.

Start -> Control Panel -> Multimedia -> Midi defines which midi device is the Windows default. Many programs assume this default, unlike NWC which allows you to choose the device directly.
The other common problem (I still do it myself sometimes) is to have the volume turned down on the output in question. Check your volume control applet (in the system tray) :)

Another thing to check, and I get caught this way all the time is to check that you close Noteworthy Composer before you try to play the midi file. Obviously there is some contention for the sound card during playback of MediaPlayer and Noteworthy Composer....

Peter - yes, even after (how many?) version of Windows, microsoft still hasn't implemented a multi-midi client (which Hubert Winkler, author of "Hubi's midi cable" claims is trivial). So only one program can capture and use any given midi device at a given time.
You can get around this with Hubi's Midi Cable (http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/2872/hmidilb/hmdlpbk.html) (freeware), which gets around that restriction and has other
advantages, such as being able to change midi devices on the fly, say to compare the sound with different midi outs. I put it in my Start menu under Startup so that it's always available in my bozo bar. A right-click on the icon lets me instantly change devices instead of having to go through the control panel maze.
Or if you don't want to muck with this you can use NWC's Port Usage options in Tools -> Options -> Midi tab. Use "While Playing" or "While Active" as appropriate to your situation. If it's set to "Always" then other programs won't be able to use the midi port as long as NWC is running.
