Title: MPU-401
Post by: Chris on 2000-11-21 05:00 AM
AHHHHH MIDI is drivin me round the bend!!!

I just installed the MPU-401 driver, but when I open Noteworthy Composer, it says 'Can't access this COM port. Make sure this COM port is not in use by another program.'
WTF?!! By the way, at the top of the error message box it has Roland Serial MIDI Driver. Also, when I try and record, it says 'Your selected MIDI input device is failing to open. Would you like to go to the Record options to investigate' AHHH! ive had my MIDI keyboard 2 or 2 years now, and still havnt got it to work with MIDI!! ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

My guess is that you have an MPU-401 driver that's meant for a serial midi interface (i.e. via one of the computer's COM ports), and you've got it connected to a port that's... um... in use. Like maybe your mouse is on that port, or something.

You shouldn't need an outside MPU-401 driver. Every sound card I've seen comes with the MPU-401 driver _for_the_soundcard's_ midi/joystick port. If yours doesn't, go to the manufacturer's website for direction.

Yes indeed the MPU-401 driver I have is a serial midi interface.. wrong one then I take it? Ive removed it now anyway because of the problems in my previous post.

Im not exactly sure what my sound card is...
