Does anyone know how to enable MAC users to use noteworthy songs?

I've tried converting the files to midi type 0 and midi type 1 files and the MAC still does not recognize them.

MAC users cannot directly use *.nwc files. However, as you point out, MAC users can play MIDI files. In NWC, if you save your work as a Type 1 or Type 0 MIDI file (File | Save As | Save as type), then a MAC user could hear your song. If the creator is not set properly on the MAC, the file should still open correctly if it has the .mid extension. If it does not, then try opening the file using QuickTime, which should be able to play it.
