Title: Legato: how long does the effect last?
Post by: Clive on 2000-03-24 05:00 AM
Hi,

I wonder if someone could kindly tell me how long the "legato" effect lasts for after insertion?

How do you revert back to the "normal" performance style?

Thanking all in advance, Clive

The legato and staccato performance specifications last until you turn them off again. Any other performance spec reverts to the marcato performance style.

The effect lasts for the entirety of the staff, or until you change the performance style to something else. It does not have an impact on any other staves in the score.

Dear NW-online,

Is the effect of "legato" terminated when another style is inserted, even if the latter style has no effect upon the style of performance?

Thank you, Clive

Empirically, yes. I tried "cantabile", which certainly does the trick.
