Title: Sound Card
Post by: Bryan Wylie on 2000-01-17 05:00 AM
I'm thinking of updating my computer soon. ATM I have a SB AWE 32 sound card. Has anyone any recommendations for a card which would give better results with NWC - without breaking the bank of course - <G>

From what I have read and heard the Creative Soundblaster Live! is well worth buying. UK prices shouldn't be too bad. This card also comes with digital input and output and is currently the top of the range. Good luck - Barry

I have an AWE32 with 8mb RAM on board.
I love it!
If I ever upgrade it will probably be the SB Live.

OK Barry, thanks. I find the SB AWE 32 quite good, but it does not support all the dynamics in NWC so I was looking for something a bit more comprehensive.

I'd reccomend the sound blaster live as well. Its cheap, and depending on your system ram, you can use soundfonts 32mb in size. For me its invaluable.. the 32mb of soundfont capability lets me do music that is pretty good. The only downside of course is the lack of MIDI controller support in NWC, so you won't have any reverb, chorus, effects, or envelope settings available.
